Ashaunti
Alphess of Kalahiri
Ashaunti approached the vast lake, staring at the shore for any signs of stones. The alphess wanted to decorate her new den. She could have done so earlier; however, she wasn't in the mind frame. Now, she was starting to heal slightly. The black fae decided that decorating her den would be a big step. Instead of dwelling on the past, she could focus on the future and ways to better her pack's life. That was what her passed loved-ones would have wanted her to do.
She walked closer to the lake that looked like it could freeze any moment. The wolf stuck to the snow-covered ground, not wanting a cold shower. Her fluffy pelt could only take so much. Ashaunti's giant paws dug into the floor, scooping the snow away. Underneath lied colorful pebbles. Some were prettier than others. Hmm. I think I would like to stick lighter, vibrant colors to contrast with the dark ground and walls. This fae didn't see the point in having decoration that blended in with the surroundings; they would be less obvious. She was going for the chill, sophisticated vibe. After all, how she oriented her belongings could tell anyone who was.
Using her paws, she separated the pebbles that were unique and pretty from the ones that weren't. The fae then stuck a stick on the snow to indicate the location of her stash. She looked around for any signs of activity before walking further away in search of more materials.

[attr="class","mikabox"]don't know, is your real advantage
[attr="class","mikamain"]With few duties to attend that he could not push aside for a little later or be called for at a moment's notice, considering his efficiency the previous day, Mikaere had every intention that day to spend the morning with his sister. With his duties keeping him closer to Ashaunti's side, and her own keeping her out tracking herds and hunting when she was not confined to her den for the day, they spent far less time together than Mikaere would have liked. After being practically attached at the hip as pups, it felt wrong to spend such time apart, even if they saw each other every evening. A brief talk was nothing compared to truly sharing each other's company and catching up as they truly wanted to. So, Mikaere was determined, and he had no doubt that anyone who cared for his absence would understand his desire to spend some quality time with his littermate. After all, beyond their aunt, they only had each other since their father had died, and many feared Ngairo might meet the same fate as their mother did.
However, as he parted from his sister's side to let her sleep as the afternoon neared, spending the morning with one of the she-wolves who gripped his heart so tightly only pushed him to seek out the other in her absence. He preferred to give them both their space, especially Ashaunti for he knew she was not fond of clingy wolves, however today he felt a tug to spend some time with them beyond duties and defense. Was it so wrong to just want a peaceful conversation? He did not think there was any trouble in that, and she never seemed to averse to his company, so Mikaere set out in the direction a packmate had suggested she went, until he caught her scent trail. No that he had much need to follow it - the Guardian had some idea of where he might find her, and a rare soft smile warmed his expression at the thought of her truly letting herself settle into her new abode. Perhaps it would encourage her more if he helped, Mikaere found himself deciding.
Nearing the shore of the lake, Mikaere spotted a stick poking out of the snow nearby, some vibrant pebbles scattered around it. However, while her scent was still strong, Mikaere could not spot his friend. Assuming she must have wondered off and would no doubt be returning soon, seeing as she had marked her collection here, the Guardian padded slightly closer to the water and set about shifting the snow from the pebbles, eyes skimming over the collection he had uncovered. Spotting a smooth white pebble with speckles of blueish grey flecked across it, and a stone that almost appeared a pale blue, with a strange pattern curved into it that, while nice looking, left the male wondering how it could have gotten there.
His selection decided, the male pawed the two small stones free from the grasp of earth and snow, scooping them up when he had isolated them and padding his way back toward the pile Ashaunti had marked. It was only when he released the stones and took a moment to observe the others she had gathered, that Mikaere realized her scent was stronger than it had been before. Nose twitching slightly, the Guardian lifted his head and allowed his tail to sway just subtly despite himself, peering around with intent to catch a glimpse of his Alphess.
Unable to spot her, but hardly alarmed by this fact, the male busied himself with using his paws to organize the stones into a neater cluster, casting his words out for his nearby friend to catch as he angled his ears with intention to catch if she gave herself away. "I take it you'll be having me guard stones today, rather than you?" While the male did not add a laugh to his own slight joke, rare as it was for him to make his amusement known beyond his expression, a glint of it still sparked in his cerulean gaze.

Ashaunti
Alphess of Kalahiri
Ashaunti was still searching for pretty stones when a familiar smell touched her nose. Her head immediately lifted up, fully alert. The fae's dark ears twitched with interest. She knew exactly who that was. Mikaere. My dear friend. The alphess quickly scanned the floor for anything that caught her eye. Nope. Instead of looking for more, she had another idea in mind. Slowly, she followed her guardian's scent. It seemed like he was located where she was originally. What could he be doing? Her steps halted when she spotted him. The stick she placed in the snow was next to the male. Then she heard his little joke. Huh. So he is helping me with my pile. What a friend. She bit her lip, tempted to respond. If I do, he'll immediately know my location. I'd rather not let that happen until... A smirk showed in her feminine features.
Her paws softly landed on the snow as she made her way to Mikaere. The large wolf lowered her body to the ground as she got closer. Although her raven pelt stuck out in the snow, she still wanted to try her luck. The ultimate goal was to get close enough without getting spotted. Ashaunti was someone who loved being around her packmates; however, there were certain actions she kept to her close friends. Not everyone would appreciate getting tackled by a giant wolf. Additionally, the alphess also wasn't affectionate and preferred less physical contact. Some wolves understood that some didn't. Mika was someone the black fae cherished deeply. Their personalities mixed well. The male was more laid-back, which gave the she wolf plenty of room to take control. They were both extremely dedicated to loved-ones; therefore, betrayals were less likely. Ashaunti was also quite jocular, and her friend wasn't easily offended. She didn't have to be too careful about what she wanted to say to him. The guardian also knew when to give her space. Overall, she felt comfortable with him to the extent that she could be herself. And yet you refrain from getting super vulnerable with him on some occasions? A voice echoed in her mind. She immediately shook her head to get rid of it. I am entitled to my expressions of thoughts and words. Honestly, sometimes she wasn't too transparent, but she was more so with him than anyone else besides Arian.
The black fae continued stalking towards her friend. Her amber eyes showed extreme concentration as if she was hunting someone. She stared at his pretty light gray coat. In her mind, he was quite attractive. He could probably get with anyone he wanted to. I wonder if he's been eyeing anyone lately... Eh, he'd probably tell me. She pushed those thoughts away once more.Thinking too much and sneaking didn't mix. When the she wolf got close enough, she propelled herself forward, attempting to tackle him.

[attr="class","mika"]

[attr="class","mikamain"]While part of Mikaere had been expecting a response to his words, perhaps a simple agreement though more likely some of her customary jokes and teasing, the Guardian was not overly surprised not to receive one. The sort to stand out with her large size and deep black fur, Ashaunti had a tendency to enjoy sneaking up on him when he could, and honestly Mikaere was fine with providing the Alphess some entertainment if it were to make her laugh or smile.
So, Mikaere continued to busy himself with sorting the stones. He took his time to study what had been gathered and to organize them as he desired, giving her whatever chance she needed to sneak up and pop out behind him as she wished. However, as she seemed to be taking her time, the male ceased his idle sorting to sniff the air again, ears angling to listen around him. From behind him he heard the faintest crunch, one he likely would not have noticed had he not been expecting Ashaunti to be there, and the Guardian flicked his ears slightly at the subtle noise.
"I know you're there," the male mused lightly, preparing to look back in the direction of the sound and halt her attempt to startle him just before she could try. However, what Mikaere was not expecting was for Ashaunti to quite literally launch herself at him the second he turned around, promptly knocking him down and sending the Guardian sprawling into the snow. Now, anyone else Mikaere would have acted immediately. He would have aimed straight for a bite if he could not simply shove them off, would have gotten himself into control and forced them to submit, no hesitance to it after they attacked first. Were it the harmless play tackle of a packmate, perhaps they might earn a growl or some annoyance.
Yet with Ashaunti...well, the moment he found himself tackled down and pinned into the snow, the male merely relented himself to his fate and peered calmly back up at her. His initial shock had already worn off, and now a slight amusement sparking in his eyes was the only break from his easy demeanor. "Well, now I can't guard either," the male pointed out, though the fact he did not even bother to struggle was proof enough that he hardly minded in the slightest. The chill of the snow seeping into his dampening fur was, admittedly, not favorable. However, Mikaere was reluctant to drive her off him even so.

Alphess of Kalahiri
Ashaunti's body collided with her friend's body right after he made note of her appearance out loud. Her pitch black paws pinned the male to the snow. A smirk made itself known in her features. She took in his calm expressions. When it came to other wolves, he was more assertive and would likely not budge. But with her, he let her do her own thing. "Pinned ya," she chuckled before continuously poking his chest and stomach. Ah, picking on him feels great. She jumped off of him, allowing snow to land in his direction. The alphess started jumping around him until she finally lied down next to him. The back of her head rested on the snow as her paws hung in the air. She inhaled the fresh air and closed her eyes. They opened again when her guardian spoke. Her amber orbs narrowed and she whipped her head in his direction. "Guarding, smaurding. Who's going to steal my pebbles?" The alphess rolled over and landed on her stomach. Her gaze still remained on her companion. "The only wolf I think would do that is you," she smiled at him.
The alphess stood up and shook her pelt. She then walked over to her rock collection. It was scattered about. Whoops. Ashaunti started to separate them again. "Thanks for watching over my stuff while I was gone. What a nice little friend you are. I can't wait to see the result of my den," she said, with her back turned to him. Her tail swayed gently as she continued to neaten her stash. Done. The black she wolf noted the amount of decoration she had. It was enough to fit in her mouth, but not for the den. Her den was massive; it was able to allow all of her pack members to sleep there. "A teeny bit more and we'll be good to go. So.... how have you been lately?"Ashaunti looked back at him with her ears twitching with interest.

[attr="class","mikatitle"]What they
[attr="class","mika"]
[attr="class","mikabox"]don't know, is your real advantage
[attr="class","mikamain"]Ashaunti seemed quite pleased to have pinned him down into the snow, however, she did not look surprised. There was no surprise to have, after all - they both knew Mikaere was far more allowing with her than anyone else, and considering his calm acceptance of most things, that was certainly saying something. Her words drew a hint of a smile onto her Guardian's maw. "So you did," he observed as she made sure to get a few harmless prods to his chest and stomach before jumping off.
Rolling onto his stomach as the Alphess released him, Mikaere shook the extra snow she had flung at him free from his pelt and watched her frolic around like a joyful pup, before allowing a slight chuckle as she flopped down into the snow. Really, it would be hard for anyone to warm Mikaere's heart like Ashaunti did. Honestly, anyone would be surprised to see the pair rolling in the snow, considering how little interest Mikaere held in childish antics. However, there was no hesitance in his mind to indulge his dear friend in her own fun. So, at the accusation, Mikaere's eyes widened in undeniably fake shock. "Me, stealing from you?" He questioned, ears flicking to dislodge the snow. "I think you have forgotten who you are speaking of, Ashaunti."
Rising to his paws, Mikaere took a moment to shake the rest of the snow from his fur, an act that did not rid him of the cold dampness intent on seeping through into his skin, before following the Alphess toward her pile of pebbles. She was sorting them again, after her sudden attack had caused them to be scattered, and Mikaere settled back to simply observe unless requested to help. The raven fae's thanks earned a nod from her friend, icy gaze ironically warm as he regarded her. "My pleasure, I'm sure it will look great."
The sway of Ashaunti's tail as she turned her gaze back to Mikaere habitually triggered his own, and Mikaere padded closer to observe her newly organized collection as she spoke. Amused, the male arched a brow as he noted the feeble amount there for the size of her den. "A teeny bit?" he quizzed, casting Ashaunti a side glance from bright cerulean orbs. "And just how many trips do you intend to make?" Even so, Mikaere obediently took a few long strides back toward the shore of the lake, before scooping away some more snow to find the next pebbles for the Alphess' collection.
Deeming none of the ones he had revealed worthy, Mikaere paused to glance back toward his companion with another subtle sway of his tail. "I have been well. I spent the morning with Ngairo today," Mikaere told her easily, another soft smile lighting his expression at the thought of his beloved sister and the chance he had finally gotten to spend some quality time with her. It was a shame she was not taking the winter as well as they wished, but the Apothecaries were not worried for her life like they were his mother. "She is feeling much better than yesterday, we plan to go hunting together come Spring if she is feeling up to it."
There was a spark of warm hope in the male's eyes, however, it was edged with a glimmer of uncertainty. Gaze returning to the snow, Mikaere moved on to uncover a few more pebbles in the hopes of finding something nicer than his previous attempt. "And how about you?" Finally spotting a pebble he felt would strike Ashaunti's liking, the male scooped it up and cast his companion a quizzical glance, before padding back to deposit his find upon the pile.

Ashaunti
Alphess of Kalahiri
Ashaunti noticed that her companion followed her to her pile. She blinked her amber orbs at him, thankful for his company. He was one of the only wolves she could spend time with for a while without craving lone time. "You know, perhaps you can visit my den once its done," the black fae gave him a slight smile. Although she liked his presence, she felt hesitant to invite him to sleep over in her den. It was her space, and members typically came when they needed something. Not really for the sake of being there. Also, it seemed to be a romantic gesture. Hey, would you like to sleep with me tonight? We can snack on voles or hares and tell stories. Ashaunti was close to her guardian, but she wasn't going to confront those feelings. She wasn't someone who liked being extremely vulnerable to others. With romance, one could reject her. Rejection was a terrible feeling to come across. Being an alphess also closed her up a little bit. She knew some wolves that would be mates someone to progress in rank without loving them. The fae doubted Mika was that way, but she was still cautious.
Her friend's words went into her ear, dragging her away from her thoughts. She tore her gaze away from him to look at the decoration. "Yes, a tiny bit. I'd like to have it where we can carry everything back to the den. It's not a short walk," she slapped his side with her fluffy tail. Originally, she planned to have a few pebbles in a pile because it was only one of her. Now that her confidant came, she had more room to add more to her collection. "I'd rather make one trip--two maximum. Finding those isn't exactly the most fun activity." The distance from the place they were standing and the den was quite long. The territories were each at one side of the Kalahiri territory. A shorter route was across the Rugien's Sea. That was very unreliable. Who would even travel across the rough sea? Especially during winter? They were much better off on land.
Ashaunti pricked her ears when Mikaere spoke again. She was happy that he was doing well. "Glad to hear that," the fae smiled. Like him, the alphess also had a close sibling. "That's nice. I hope you both get to do that. That sounds fun. I hope she gets better, by the way." Her gaze also returned to the snow. The she wolf went to an unoccupied spot and started digging. "I have been alright. My grieving has slowed down. It still hurts to think about my parents. But other than that, everything's good. I am glad the other packs haven't bothered us lately. Makes my life easier." The raven fae didn't look up. Instead, she continued to dig until she found a pretty stone. It was bright orange with cream flecks. Oooh, she thought. That's a keeper. Satisfied, the she wolf picked it up and walked over to her stash. She noticed Mikaere with a pebble in his mouth as well. His quizzical glance was met by a nod. The one he picked was pretty too. The alphess dropped her catch and lifted her chin. "Looks like we need two more and we should be set."Her amber gaze glinted with a bit of excitement and a hint of exhaustion.

[attr="class","mikatitle"]What they
[attr="class","mika"]
[attr="class","mikabox"]don't know, is your real advantage
[attr="class","mikamain"]At the offer to visit Ashaunti's den, Mikaere found himself blinking in surprise at the Alphess for the briefest moment, before he quickly dismissed his train of thought. Visit to observe her decoration, perhaps give any advice to make it better if he found he had any to give, nothing more. She was his friend, and no matter his heart, he knew it was best to accept that she likely would not feel the same. Perhaps it was selfish, to keep such a secret for risk of losing her all together if she knew - however, the friendship they held was important to both of them. It would be far more selfish to ruin that for her than it would be to keep her from knowing. So, the male smiled warmly, allowing himself to picture instead his best friend standing proudly over her decorations as she awaited him to appreciate them.
"Of course," he agreed, gaze flitting idly over the collection. "I look forward to seeing how much your decorating brightens the place." The flick of a fluffy raven tail against his ribs was enough to scatter anymore of Mikaere's lingering thoughts, earning a fond eye-roll from the Guardian. Still, it made sense. Together they could carry a bit more, but to keep coming back here for enough decoration to occupy her den, even between the two of them, was rather inefficient. The travel was certainly not short, and it was far from pleasing with the addition of winter's chill. Perhaps they would be able to find a closer source of decoration to the The Chamber?
Thinking, the male tilted his head softly, running over the options in his mind. He did not have quite as much of an eye for decorating as his companion, but to say she had not rubbed off on him in the slightest would certainly be a lie. "Perhaps a trip to the Crystal Cove, then? It is far closer, and there might be some loose crystals to collect." Every time Mikaere had been there, he had to admit that the crystals were quite the sight, lighting beneath the glow-worms in all different colors. Dazzling, really. Sure, Ashaunti's den was lacking in glow worms, but surely the sun would give just as nice of an effect during the day, as would the fuller moon phases at night. It was not like Ashaunti's pebble collection would glow, either, yet both were equally pretty.
Hearing Ashaunti speak of her own wellbeing, however lacking in details it might be, Mikaere felt uneasily settled between pleased and sorrowful. He hated the thought that she was hurting, but to hear that things were becoming easier on her certainly warmed him. Approaching more sensitive topics were...not quite as easy as far more casual ones, but the words had already flowed from the Guardian's maw before he could think to reconsider them. "You are a great Alphess and the pack is strong, Ashaunti. They would be proud." The male cringed slightly, missed by the Alphess still not having lifted her gaze to him. It did not sound too insensitive, but really he could not help but doubt any choice of words he offered. He wanted to be there for her, but while Mikaere knew of grieving, approaching it was certainly a different matter when he did not know what the other needed beyond time itself.
When her gaze settled on him again, she had another stone added to her pile beside his own, looking pleased, yet tired. Again, a slight smile touched his face, another soft sway of his tail spurred by her excitement. He was glad she was doing well, and seeing such brightness in her eyes was definitely a good sign. Times were hard, but they had not crushed her spirit. The Guardian nodded, gaze lingering just a moment before he returned to seeking the first of their final stones. "And once we have all of your stones?" The male prompted, curious to know if she had planned any other decorations for her den prior to this particular excursion.

Ashaunti
Alphess of Kalahiri
Ashaunti caught Mikaere blinking his eyes a few times at her offer. She guessed that he didn't expect that either. The alphess hadn't ever done a flirtatious or romantic gesture during their friendship. She kept her feelings to herself to protect her heart from rejection. Over time, she became hesitant to be honest with how she felt. And yet you are outspoken about everything else, missy. For a moment, she wondered if her friend felt the same way. Or did he back off because he knew she would evade him if he mentioned his feelings? Perhaps both. Perhaps neither. The fae doubted she would find out anytime soon. At the same time, she didn't quite want to... yet. Her thoughts got put to rest when the male smiled warmly and spoke to her. "Yes! It would be all pretty and nice. I can't wait to finish it," she whipped her tail happily. "So cozy..."
Her amber eyes followed her friend's gaze. The pebble collection was already stunning. However, there was so much they both could carry. Carrying those by mouth and walking a distance wasn't going to be comfortable at all. Ashaunti was thankful that her guardian was willing to make the trip with her. The fae's ears twitched when Mika spoke again. What he said made sense. Honestly, she didn't want to make that trip again. The Crystal Cove was much closer and probably would have shiner stones and gems. She would have to be careful to not take too much; it still needed to have the elements that made it unique. The glowworms are going to stay where they are at. Nobody would have to worry about her stealing any of those insects.
The giant female walked away from her friend and the pile to find one more pebble. She kept looking over her shoulders to signal that she was still attentive. Her amber gaze stopped at an area that had a hole in the snow. Hmm... She used her paws to dig until she spotted a teal stone with black flecks. The alphess was about to grab it when Mika spoke. His words instantly warmed her heart. "Oh Mika." If the stone wasn't there, she probably would have head-butted his side. "You are so kind." Luckily for me, I know I am already awesome, she thought. But thanks anyways. Ashaunti wasn't the most humble wolf. She had enough confidence to give the entire pack. While she tried to not let that get into her head too much, sometimes it was hard to hide her pride. "I am glad you are by my side as my guardian. Such a supportive, great confidant and protector." She smiled before grabbing her product and walking over to the collection. The she wolf dropped it and started dividing the objects up into two. "We can either enjoy ourselves while we are here and leave after. Or we can just head back to camp." Ashaunti was alright with either.
