The Kalahiri pack is an untraditional pack that bends the rules to best suit itself. It has a way of making sure everyone has a fair chance. Females are treated as equally as males, and even omegas are treated better than those in other packs. They believe that a strong pack consists of wolves who truly care for one another and will stick together, thick and thin, good and bad. That’s not all, however. The wolves believe in being well-rounded. Therefore, it’s rare to see them put everything in one basket. They are aware that not every wolf shares the same skills and strengths; everyone has something that makes him/her special. The Kalahiris take full advantage of that. Everyone is encouraged to know basic hunting, fighting, and healing tips. However, being extremely talented in one skill is also remarkable.
Even with Gods/Goddesses, they give every one of them attention. The pack believes that having favor from all of the deities will give them the upper-hand in almost everything.
When it comes to romance, it is rare to see a high-ranker looked down upon if he/she loves a subordinate. Within the pack, love is love. The only rank that cannot have romance are slaves. Whether omegas can romance is up to the alpha’s discretion. Members are discouraged from seeking mates outside of their packs. If they do, more often than not, they will get banished. Kalahiri leaders often disagree with coordinated inter-pack mateships. Either their lovers are within the pack or they don’t get a mate at all.
It is uncommon to have a single male rule the pack. The pack was founded by a female, Euthena. She was mateless, but effective. At the beginning of time, the pack was used as a safe-heaven for runaway females who have been mistreated in any way. Over time, female empowerment has been one of the biggest initiatives in Kalahiri history. Males are often taught to treat every female with respect no matter what size, color, or shape.
What Kalahiris Are Known For…
“Unapologetically tenacious” In general, the Kalahiris are known for their determination. They are willing to go through trials and tribulations to reach their goals. Anyone in their way, beware. They are relentless.
Well-rounded Although ranks allow wolves to dive deeper into their specific responsibilities, pack members are encouraged to learn a bit of everything. Incompetence is something these wolves in the pack get tired of quickly.
Perfectionists The wolves that master certain skills are typically the ones that are most popular in the pack. As stated before, incompetence isn’t tolerated. Even the omegas need to have at least one skill mastered. Skills don’t always have to be physical, they can be expressed socially, such as the ability to coordinate successful hunts or command attention.
Proud Pack pride is practiced daily for the Kalahiris. It is common for them to boast about their wellness and success to other wolves. Because of this, they are often considered arrogant.
Secretive What goes on at camp, stays at camp. That is no exception when it comes to the Kalahiri Pack. They often prefer to have rivals keep guessing, unless they win a challenge.
Manipulative/Rebellious These wolves like to twist rules/laws to suit themselves. If something doesn’t benefit the pack, they are likely to rebel. They have this “I can do whatever I want” attitude. It is rare that they hesitate to push boundaries.
Vengeful The Kalahiris can be the best neighbor or one’s worst nightmare. As long as the rival pack stays in its lane, everything would be good. Try not to underestimate or provoke them. They take on challenges and do not back down. If they lose, they would keep trying until the rival falls.
Their way of revenge can be extremely calculating. They are hardcore “blood for blood” kind of wolves. If there is a border skirmish happens and one of their wolves die or get seriously injured, the other pack members are encouraged to pick at the rival until at least two wolves die or get seriously injured. Essentially, the Kalahiris will aim to do twice as bad as the rival that attacked them.
Merciless If one isn’t a part of the pack, mercy is rarely ever granted. During fights, they go for the throat and hesitate to let go. They are likely to annihilate the entire pack (except for the pups) without a second thought. During a full-on rage, it is unusual for them to leave living survivors behind.
Level of aggression (volatile) The Kalahiris can be very cordial in social settings with rival packs. However, their pleasant attitudes can fade very quickly. On the borders, they tend to lose patience with outsiders a lot faster than most. Others must use their time wisely!
Ability to hunt The Kalahiris are known for being quiet in almost every setting. It is often very hard to detect them. They are known for coming up with unique tactics to avoid detection.
Battle The pack values strength in numbers. Partner mini-battles are often taught to everyone. During fights, they are much more likely to tag-team.

History
A brave and noble wolf, Euthena is the founder of the Kalahiri Pack. She was born in a small, unofficial pack called the Lebaris. The Lebaris was a male-dominant pack with very tight “traditions”. Only males had high ranks and females were only there to reproduce and satisfy the brutes. Many females would die due to abuse and extreme stress. Some males would purposefully kill female pups to maintain superiority. Being born in a “well off” family, Euthena and her two sisters, Iyanna and Somaya, were sheltered from most harmful treatments. Their father, Hiri, was the third in command. Their mother, Kala, was somewhat influential in the pack when it came to hunting techniques.
Euthena and her sisters lived in the pack for about a year and a half. By then, they were in tune with the pack’s social hierarchy. They constantly bugged their father to create a change and to respect female wolves. Kala often backed them up and held peaceful protests around camp. One day, the current alpha got tired of the family’s attempts. He led his closest friends to the family’s “social spot” and killed Hiri and Somaya. Iyanna was left fatally injured. Kala and Euthena were hunting at the time. They didn’t find out about the treacherous event until after. Both she-wolves were fed up and led the Great Rebellion, shortly after. Most female wolves fought against the leading males. Many died, including Kala. However, the dominating males were executed. Euthena, Iyanna, and some females fled north. Most of the followers became loners, afraid of being led again. Euthena founded a pack in honor of both her parents, Kalahiri. She designed it to be a haven for all wolves, despite their genders. Her memorable quote was “no noble wolf left behind”.
Ranking
The Kalahiris have all of the typical pack ranks (refer to ranking and leveling system). However, there are some things to keep in mind.
Pups are nurtured by den-mothers (and omega assistants) until they are 12 months old. Pups are expected to know basic hunting, battle, and healing tactics. They also need to learn the pack’s history and deity worship methods.
All assessments are created by the lead wolves in each class. Betas overlook every pup’s progress.
At 11-12 months, pups will go through a “rotation” with the beta(s). They will be exposed to the leads of each class and the leads will provide a basic overview of their jobs.
Afterward, the pups (except heirs) can choose their ranks. If they need help, their parents can assist.
Wolves must be a minimum of 2 years to be able to rank up.
Omegas can have mates at alphess/alpha’s discretion. They must meet with the alpha before anything is official. Other ranks (except slaves) can choose a partner (within the pack) without alpha’s permission.
The scout rank isn't available. Instead, the Preservers will replace that rank.
New members are to be welcomed; however, they will be under careful watch until trust is gained.
Special Rank (Kalahiri Only)
Bloodkeepers
High rank (only has to answer to alphess/ alpha)
Only one wolf can hold lead position (chosen by alphess/alpha)
Lead bloodkeeper can only have one apprentice
Typically the most socially verse in the pack and is able to uncover secrets quickly
Usually creative
Tends to be good at fighting, hunting, and healing
Carves bones to record important events or inspiring messages.
Reports any rival “secrets” to the alphess/alpha after any inter-pack interaction (only the bloodkeeper, her/his apprentice, and alphess/alpha knows of this role)
Plays important role in Euthena’s Love
Can have a mate and pups
Does not need to attend Summer Solstice (festival)
Alerts alphess/alpha of any alarming opposition within the pack (only the bloodkeepers and alphess/alpha knows of this role)
Listens to other pack members' problems (essentially, a psychologist)
Can be a bridge between high ranking wolves and subordinating wolves. Ex: If a sentinel is intimidated by a paladin, then that wolf can tell the bloodkeeper. The bloodkeeper will work with the two wolves to alleviate the tension.
Preservers
Patrols the entire pack premises, especially the borders
Reports suspicious activity, change in herd routes, pack secrets (if applicable) or any abnormalities to the alphess/alpha
Watches over pack during summer solstice
Tends to be one of the most versatile wolves in hunting, fighting, tracking, and sometimes healing
Works closely with deerstalkers and paladins
In charge of slave treatment
Can recruit new members (head preserver) at the border
Up to 5 wolves allowed; rank can be requested after being apart of the pack for more than one IC month. Loyalty points will be taken into account.
Can assist with territory expansion (scouting unclaimed spaces)
Cannot invade rival territory without alphess/alpha's permission
Highest rank possible for Provider Class
Can have mates and pups
Should be in tune with new strategies for hunting and fighting. Those that can already heal should keep tabs on new practices as well.
Keeps tabs on new or suspicious members
Mostly cooperative-- head preserver just has a few more tasks and is usually the one to report to alphess/alpha
Traditions (Kalahiri Only)
Euthena’s Love At the beginning of every fall, the whole pack will pay a tribute to all deities and celebrate every pack member. Shamans and Bloodkeepers will have the big task of organizing the event; they will have plenty of room to execute the event their way, just as long as they are creative and effective. Every god/goddess must be mentioned. Pack members will be encouraged to chat with each other and appreciate each other’s strengths. Around the pack, carved bones and colorful stones (brought from Crystal Cove) would be scattered about (for decoration and admiration). Before the mini-festival ends, everyone will travel to the Social Pond and cast the carved bones and stones in the water.
Rank Swap Every month, there will be a couple of days (in rp) dedicated to learning the crafts of hunting, fighting, and healing. The wolves in the pack will not actually swap ranks. They will just learn helpful tips from the lead ranks. For example, on day one, the members of the provider class would work with those of the warrior class to learn the crafts/tricks of fighting. The guardians will be in charge with coming up with battle lessons. Other members of the warrior class would simply help out (and follow the guardian's tasks). On day two, it would be the deerstalker's turn to come up with the hunting lessons and the rest of that class would help out.
It would be the beta's job to check with the leadership ranks and to make sure that the lessons will benefit the wolves learning them. Every wolf must participate in at least one learning exercise (hunting, fighting, & healing) as it will benefit the pack as a whole.
It would be the alpha's job to assign wolves to specific "stations". The two days will be dedicated to learning one craft. Every month, the members will have a different rank skill to learn.
Gods/Goddesses Worshipped
Three Faced Goddess Used as a guideline for pack order and discipline
Drowned God There are some water sources present, which presents possible prey. When land prey gets limited, fish will be hunted.
Lady Luck Although most packs don’t take this goddess as seriously as the others, the Kalahiris use this to their advantage. In their minds, sometimes a little luck makes a difference.
Preservers are definitely encouraged to pray to this goddess frequently.
Horned God Typically looked up to for hunting and battle
Being a former female-dominated pack, male virility isn’t usually sought after.
Many-Faced God Usually used as a way to have a better chance of preventing stillborn pups and endless suffering
Ardor Goddess Typically looked up to for fertility, love, and life Pups and love are essential!
Terrain and Weather
The Kalahiri Pack dominates the Northern Hemisphere where the frozen tundra, mountains, and forests lie. The pack can adapt to their surroundings to suit their needs or wants. One could either hunt in the forests where he/she/they could practice stealth or could practice team building in the open grounds. Agility is often practiced around the mountains. Due to the all-around chill climate, it is common to see wolves with very thick pelts. Ones without that hefty pelt would likely suffer. Ice wolves and timber wolves are the dominant races in the pack. It is common to have wolves of mix heritage (between the two). Most wolves possess sturdy, heavy builds and slender, lithe builds. Nonetheless, muscles are packed underneath their fur. There is a diverse range in wolf-pelts.
Prey
Diverse environments allow for prey diversity. Therefore, it’s hard for the Kalahiris to experience prey shortage.
Common prey are elk, bison, moose, rodents, ibex, bighorn sheep, different species of fish and rodents, owls (if they can)
